John MINIHAN
John Minihan is also renowned for his iconic portraits of writers and public figures. He is particularly famous for his intimate photographs of Samuel Beckett, taken in Paris and London, which are considered among the most powerful images of the playwright.

Alongside his London reporting, Minihan pursued a long-term documentary project on his hometown of Athy, photographing its inhabitants, celebrations, mourning and transformations for over 30 years. This work, published in several books (Shadows from the Pale in 1996, An Unweaving of Rainbows, etc.), is considered one of the great photographic chronicles of a small Irish town in the 20th century.
His photographs have been published and exhibited internationally. In addition to MoMA, the Centre Pompidou, the National Portrait Gallery, the October Gallery and the Guinness Hop Store, his work has also been shown at the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro, the Municipal Gallery in Dublin and in numerous exhibitions devoted to literature and contemporary Ireland.
Minihan continues to live and work between London and Ireland. His work, both journalistic and deeply personal, lies at the crossroads of portraiture and reportage and is now a reference point in the history of Irish photography.
