"A JAPANESE PERSPECTIVE ON NICE"

Meet the speakers and join the discussion on 25 January 2025

With Japanese photographer Hatsuo ADACHIHARA and art critic Alain AMIEL

Hatsuo Adachihara, initially a mathematician at the CNRS with a doctorate earned in the United States, turned to photography to express his view of the world. Inspired by the landscapes of his native Japan and the Mediterranean light of Nice, he developed a style combining simplicity and poetry. Since settling in France, he has explored everyday scenes and colour, influenced by Japanese prints and the Flemish masters. His works, poised between photography and painting, celebrate the beauty of fleeting moments while questioning the standardisation of contemporary imagery.

Alain Amiel worked as a publisher for 25 years, promoting art and artists in Nice before devoting himself to writing, notably about Vincent van Gogh, through several books and articles. Since the 2000s, he has made films about artists such as Ernest Pignon-Ernest and Modigliani, accompanied by talks. In 2024, he presented a film about street artists at the Mouans-Sartoux Festival. An art critic and member of AICA, the International Association of Art Critics, he regularly writes about artists and exhibitions.
