- Artist biography
Peter Klasen was born in Lübeck, Germany in 1935.
From 1956 to 1959 he studied at the Berlin Academy of Fine Arts.
In 1959, having won the German industry patronage prize, he obtained a scholarship and moved to Paris.
Peter Klasen was one of the founders in the 1960s of the artistic movement called New Figuration or Narrative Figuration.
He then developed a personal visual language, exploring and reinterpreting the signs of our urban environment, and more generally, of our society. Industrial themes profoundly mark his work. Thus, in Peter Klasen's paintings, one finds elements such as pressure gauges, sheet metal from construction equipment, metal locks, and truck tarpaulins. Logos, numbers, and photographs from magazines or posters are also present.
Internationally recognized, Peter Klasen's work can be seen in dozens of museums and public collections. His works have been the subject of numerous monographs.
