The latest trends in frameworks for 2025

In 2025, custom framing continues its metamorphosis, blending traditional craftsmanship with contemporary flair. More than ever, the frame becomes an artistic extension of the artwork, but also a decorative element in its own right. This year, three major trends stand out: the appreciation of natural materials , structured minimalism, and the confident return of the frame as a statement piece. The first trend is that of raw, natural, or patinated wood, which appeals with its authenticity and warmth. Light woods such as oak, birch, or maple are favored for framing soft, abstract works or those with organic tones. The aim is to find the perfect harmony between the wood grain and the visual atmosphere of the artwork, in a spirit very close to a revisited Scandinavian style. Conversely, dark frames in matte or stained black wood bring structure and contrast to luminous works, particularly contemporary photographs.
The second trend is the invisible frame , or “floating effect,” which continues to gain popularity in galleries and modern interiors alike. American-style frames, “between-glass” mountings, or double plexiglass frames create an airy presentation, where the artwork appears
Suspended, free from all constraints. These techniques particularly enhance works on paper, three-dimensional objects, or limited editions. This type of presentation is prized for its visual lightness and elegant neutrality.
Finally, in 2025, we see the return of the statement frame : bold, assertive, and decorative. Gilded baroque moldings, glossy lacquers, and vibrant colors reappear in the most creative projects. Framing a work of art becomes a strong statement, a way to create a dialogue between art and space. This approach particularly appeals to interior designers and lovers of unique objects. Contrasting hues, oversized or colorful frames are embraced to highlight a piece or integrate it into a rich wall composition. On a technical level, high-performance glass (museum-grade, antistatic, 99% UV-blocking) continues to become more widely available, as do conservation mounts, which have become almost standard for works on paper and art editions.
At Espace Soardi, we incorporate these trends, adapting them to each project: our mission remains to create a frame that is appropriate, durable, and consistent, taking into account the artwork, its intended use, and its setting. Because beyond fleeting trends, framing is a craft of precision, attentiveness, and balance. And for us, trends are simply inspirations to serve your unique vision.
