- Artist biography
William Sweetlove, born in Ostend, Belgium in 1949, is a postmodern artist who questions the idea of art and culture.
This non-conformist artist creates assemblages that showcase his unique sense of imagination.
His work reflects his ironic reaction to the omnipresence of the petty bourgeoisie.
In 2003, William Sweetlove met a collective of artists from Northern Italy: The Cracking Art Group. They shared a Dadaist, Surrealist, and Pop Art spiritual foundation. This led to a remarkable collaboration under the name "Cracking Art loves William Sweetlove".
Together they believe in the social impact of their art, thanks to strategies punctuated with irony.
In their manifesto, they advocate for a new vision of the world, for a better ecological awareness, and for the creation of a new enthusiasm, as an antidote to a society of overproduction and overconsumption.
The basic material of his work is a type of plastic, produced by a thermochemical reaction in a natural oil.
