The secrets of bespoke framing.

Custom framing is much more than simply dressing up a work of art: it's an art of precision, preservation, and enhancement, entirely designed to harmonize with the artwork, its context, and the viewer's perspective. At Espace Soardi, we approach it as a comprehensive discipline, combining artisanal expertise, technical rigor, and aesthetic sensitivity.

The first secret lies in a deep understanding of the artwork: its nature, its medium, its temporality. Is it a fragile drawing, a delicate watercolor, a contemporary photograph, a pigmented canvas, or a relief object? Each medium requires a specific mounting, chosen for its ability to respect the artwork, protect it, and preserve its uniqueness over time.

The second secret lies in the choice of conservation materials: acid-free papers, natural adhesives, alkaline-resistive mats, high-protection glass (museum-grade, UV-resistant, anti-reflective), or even acrylic plexiglass for sensitive or easily handled formats. The aim is to guarantee that the artwork suffers no deterioration, alteration, or compression, while remaining aesthetically consistent with its presentation.

A third, equally essential secret lies in the personalization of the style: a minimalist American-style frame for a floating effect on canvas, a classic frame with gilt molding for an antique oil painting, a slightly patinated natural wood profile for a poetic work, or a double plexiglass frame for a contemporary design piece. The frame then becomes an extension of the artwork, resonating with the space that houses it. Next comes the secret of the mounting technique: whether it involves stretching a canvas, mounting a photograph on Dibond, or mounting edge-to-edge in a plexiglass frame, each step is carried out meticulously, with reversibility and awareness, allowing for future restoration if necessary. Adjusting the environment around the artwork is also key: the positioning of light, humidity levels, and thermal stability are systematically taken into account to anticipate any risks.

Finally, the last secret lies in personalized support and complete transparency: from the initial contact to delivery, including material selection, sampling, aesthetic validation, and technical advice, we place communication at the heart of the process. At Espace Soardi, each frame is born from a dialogue between the artwork, the client, and the workshop, resulting not in a standard object, but in a unique setting, imbued with expertise, attentiveness, and passion.
